DR. MARY T. CAZABON,

Dr. Mary Cazabon (Ed.D.) brings experience in design and inception of innovative research-based programs for elementary and middle school students in Dual Language Programs in Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese as well as in Integrated Foreign Language Programs in Chinese and Korean.

She is the founder of the Amigos School Pre K-8 elementary school in Cambridge, MA. Students in the Amigos School consistently outperform district and state expectations on standardized assessments. She has extensive experience in conducting research and evaluation, and in delivering technical assistance to schools, districts, universities, and state departments of education. She began her 33-year educational career in Cambridge Public Schools as a Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) teacher in grades 6-8 and later as the Teacher In Charge of TBE Programs K-12. She also served as Coordinator of Curriculum and Assessment and Director of Bilingual/ESL Programs K-12 in Cambridge Public Schools.

After completing her leadership position at Cambridge Public Schools in 2008, she has served as the President of The Academy at Harvard Square (TAHS) English Institute. She has applied content-based language learning theories to develop the curriculum design and instructional materials for teaching academic English and knowledge base, both crucial for the academic success of international students in their college and graduate school studies. She has also played a leading role in designing curriculum for social inclusion and global citizenship education at TAHS/EDR (Educational Divide Reform), including Step Up and Path- finder, educational services for low-income immigrant students. Additionally, she has focused on assessing students’ output to ensure the quality of education in the curricula at TAHS.

She also served as a senior research associate at WestEd where she rendered technical and evaluative services to instructional programs for English Learners (Els) as well as conducted evaluations of dual language and Sheltered English programs. She served as the Title III National Professional Development (NPD) Director of two Graduate Certificate Programs: Teaching Science to English Language Learners (TSELL) and Teaching Social Studies/History to English Language Learners (TSSHELL) through the Department of Applied Linguistics at University of Massachusetts Boston. She also served as Assistant Director to the Lesley Graduate School of Education NPD Grant: English Language Teacher/Parent Certificate Project in collaboration with the Brockton MA Public Schools. Dr. Cazabon is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.
